The only thing I know about Weight Watchers is that I have heard of it, know there is some point system and that there seem to be good results from the program. So, with only that at hand, I thought I would do a little R & D.
Weight Watchers was founded in the 1960s by Jean Nidetch. It is a company that offers various dieting products & services to assist with weight loss. It started as a discussion group for how to best lose weight and now boasts operations in over 30 countries around the world. Weigh Watchers most prominent celebrity ensorser is Sarah, Duchess of York. So from now on, I’m to be known only as Allison, Duchess of BFeedMe- remember that.
Varying on location, Weight Watchers generally offers two distinct programs: The Points program & The Core program. The Points system is a simple ways to quantify a participant’s caloric intake and energy expenditure. Various foods are given specific numbers, same for exercises. You are allotted a certain of points per week, based on your weight and predetermined goal.
The Core program was Weight Watcher’s response to the recent popularity of the Atkins & South Beach diets. The plan classifies certain foods as “core” and permits participants to eat core food with the restriction that they would eat this foods until satisfied, or full. Non-core foods such as desserts & cola are assigned the usual points and given an allotment of 35 non-core points to play around with during the day.
Not only does Weight Watchers give people a balanced stucture to lose weight, it also supplies a communal environment that is lacking in current American society. So, I say don’t take it to the Fight Club level, but that’s a most positive feature in my book.
Now that we, at least I, know more about Weight Watchers- let’s move on to my favorite part- THE FOOD! Stay tuned for Weight Watchers Fabulous Spicy Corn Muffins Recipe.
